皆様、コロナや、大雨、そして酷暑と、厳しい日々が続いていますが、お変わりありませんか。 セブの子どもたちも、厳しい生活の中、頑張っています。 皆様も大変な時にも関わらず、会費値上げにも、快く応じていただき、EMS一同感謝しております。 どうもありがとうございます。
セブ市では、3月からすべての公立学校の休校が続いています。 そのため、4月初めの卒業式も行われないまま、学年末を迎えました。 卒業後、4年制の高校、2年制のシニアハイスクールに新たに入学する子どもたちは 登録開始に遅れないように、日々行きたい学校のHPを見続けていました。
コーディネーターのアベットやクラベルの手伝いもあり、全員が無事 希望する学校に進学できることになりました 新学年は、従来であれば6月開始ですが、それも延期になり、 ようやく8月24日開始が決まりました。 当面は、オンライン授業を受けるか、先生が自宅に届けてくれるプリント用紙で 自分で勉強するかという選択制で授業を受けるようです。
貧困層の子どもたちにとって、ネット環境や、タブレット、スマホなどの 機器の準備をするのは至難の業です。かといって、配られたプリントを見て 自力で勉強できるのかというと、かなり無理があるのではないかと 危惧しています。 実際開始してみないとどうなるのかわからないことばかりですが、不安が 募る20年度のスタートになりそうです。
セブの感染者の数は減少傾向で、少しずつ規制が緩和されてきたとはいえ まだまだ自由に外出できるわけではなく、21歳未満もしくは60歳以上の人々の 外出は24時間禁止されています。
連日30度を超える暑さの中で、クーラーもない狭い部屋で、大人数で 暮らすのは貧困層の家族にとって、どれほどつらいものか想像もできません。 EMSの多くの子どもたちやその家族は、サントニーニョ教会前で、観光客に お土産を売って生計を立てていたために、まったく収入の道が断たれました。 そんな中でも、勉強だけはやめないと、子どもたちと、コーディネーターたちは 力を合わせて、課題に取り組んでいます。
例年でしたら、遠足、クリスマスパーティなどの行事や、毎週日曜日のアクティビティと 多くの会員様に参加していただき、楽しい時間を共有していましたが、今年度は こういった行事をすべて中止し、その分のお金を、コロナ禍で以前にも増して生活が厳しい子どもたちへの食糧支援等に転用したいと 思います。
私たちも、できないことを数えていたらきりがないので、できることを見つけていこうと いうことで、学校開始に合わせて、ZOOMで日曜日の高校生アクティビティを 開始することにしました。 例年なら、3月末の一回しか参加できないアクティビティに、これから毎週 参加できると思うと、わくわくします。
実際子どもたちに会って、話ができるに越したことはないのですが、 まだまだそれは叶わぬ夢です。それなら、今できることをできるやり方で やっていきたいと思っています。 いつの日か、会員の皆様にも、Zoomアクティビティに参加していただけたらと思います。
一日も早くコロナが終息し、ずっと贈ることができていないバースデイ ケーキを、子どもたちに届けることができる日が来ますようにと 心から願っています。 皆様も、お元気でお過ごしください。
Hi everyone, How are you?
Our children in Cebu are doing well. Thank you very much for understanding in a rise of membership fee. The schools in Cebu have closed since March, 2020. So, They didn't have graduation ceremonies in April. All scholars who graduated from elementary schools or high schools had visited the website of high schools and senior high schools to know the information about enrollment.
Fortunately, everyone enrolled the schools which they wanted to go with help of Abeth and Clavel. Usually the new school year starts in June, but it was postponed. At last they will open on August 24. Students who have equipment for online classes can join online classes, but if they don't have them, they will be given printed materials.
It's so hard for needy children to prepare for the online classes, but I'm not sure if they can understand the subjects without teachers. We don't know what happens, and so let us see... Although the numbers of cases are deceasing in Cebu, it's still not allowed to go out freely. Especially children under 21 and people over 60 can't go out from their houses for 24 hours.
It is too hot to stay at small rooms without air conditioners. I can't imagine how they can manage. Almost all of EMS scholars and families sold some goodies to tourists at Sto. Nino Church, and so they don't have any income now.
Even though they are in difficult time, they don't give up studying. Our coordinators help them to keep studying always. Usually, we enjoy an outing, a Christmas party, and Sunday activities with a lot of members, but we won't have any gathering for a while. We will use the money to support children in their daily lives. We have to find something to do instead of worrying the situation.
We planned to have Zoom Sunday activities for high school students from August 23. Usually, I can join the activity only once a year, but I can join it every Sunday. How wonderful it is! Of course it's better to see them in Cebu, but we will do what we can do now.
Hopefully, you will join us someday. We are waiting for the day when we can meet children, and give them belated birthday cakes! Thank you for your continuous kind support, even though it's tough time for you, too. We can't support children without you!
