山岸と私は、毎年3月終わりから4月にかけての卒業式シーズンに、卒業式参加を兼ねてセブに行っていました。それが、去年、今年と行くことができませんでした。特に高校卒業生は高校卒業と同時に、EMSも卒業ということになり、最後に親子を招いて、お祝いのランチをしながら、EMSとともに過ごした10年くらいの日々の懐かしい話をしたり、将来の夢について聞いたりするのが恒例でしたが、去年の卒業生から、まだお祝いランチができていません。
「今度、セブに行ったときに、必ずお祝いランチをしようね」と言っていますが、それも、いつになることかわかりません。人生の大きな節目の時に立ち会えないというのは、本当に淋しいものです。
コロナ禍で、子どもたちの生活も一変しました。
まず外出禁止になり、対面授業が行われなくなり、子どもたちは学校から保護者が受け取ってくるプリントで勉強するようになりました。当初、家に机もなく、床にしゃがんで勉強をしていましたので、少しでも集中できるようにと、皆様の支援で簡易テーブルを買うことができました。ほとんどの子供が生まれて初めて、自分だけのスペースを持ったということで、とてもうれしそうにしていました。ただ、学校で習うべきことを、独学で学ぶということになり、それは想像もできないくらい難しいことではないかと思います。
今までは、週3回、放課後、サントニーニョ教会前で、クラベルが宿題や、予習復習を手伝っていましたが、それもできなくなりました。子どもたちに勉強する習慣をつけさせるという点でも、この青空教室はとても役立っていました。
毎週日曜日のアクティビティもできなくなりました。
それでも、コーディネーターたちは、どうにかして子どもたちの学習の手助けをしたいと、いろいろ工夫して、メッセージのやり取りで勉強を手伝ったり、日曜日のアクテビティをZOOMで行ったりしています。
最初は、全員がZOOMに入るのにも時間がかかっていたようですが、回を重ねるごとに、みんな慣れてきて、今はスムーズに行われています。
ただ、やはり同じ場所に集まって、時間を共有するのに越したことはないので一日も早く日曜アクティビティや、週三回の青空教室が再開できる日を待ち望んでいます。
コロナ禍は、まだまだ終息の兆しが見えません。対面授業が再開するまでは、日曜日に集まってアクティビティを行うこともできません。ZOOMを使っての日曜日のアクティビティは、このまま続けていく予定です。高校生は毎週日曜日の午前11時から、小学生は午後2時から開始します。子どもたちは、会員様が参加してくださると、とてもうれしいようですので、ぜひご参加ください。参加していただける方は、私に連絡をいただければ、アベットからZOOMのリンクをお送りします。
私たちも、一日も早くセブに行き、子どもたちをハグする日が来ることを願っています。
私たちは、子どもたちが子どもらしく生活できるような支援をこれからも続けていきたいと思っています。

Even though all of you have a difficult time because of Covid19, thank you for helping us continuously.
Usually, Sachiyo Yamagishi and I go to Cebu to attend the graduation ceremonies from the end of March to April to Cebu. But we haven't been there for two years.
We support children until the end of high school, and so high school graduates are not EMS scholars any more, when they graduate. It's so important for us to say, "Good luck!" to them on their graduation days. Usually, we have a special lunch with them and their parents to talk about their school days with us, and their goals in their lives.
We plan to have a belated special lunch with them when we go to Cebu next time. Unfortunately, we don't know when we can go there yet.
About children's lives, it was completely changed after pandemic. Children are not allowed to go out. Their schools were stopped to do face-to-face lessons. Their parents have to go to school to get the printed materials every week, and students have to study at their home by themselves. I can't imagine how they can manage to learn new things without teachers.
One of the coordinators, Clavel used to teach children three time a week after the school hour to catch up with the lesson. It really helped children to understand their lessons. We can't do it now. So, Clavel uses a smart phone to teach them now.
We also can't hold our Sunday activities, and so we use ZOOM to meet children. Abeth and Clavel are good at handling the activities, even though they can't meet children face-to-face.
Anyway, it's good to have a way to see them, but of course it's much better to gather them. Hopefully, we can do it again soon.
